ITC signs agreement with Schneider Electric and Atelier21 to promote green energy uptake in developing countries: COP28
The International Trade Centre (ITC), Schneider Electric and Atelier21 signed a memorandum of understanding on 5 December, on the sidelines of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai, to advance green energy uptake by small businesses in developing countries.
Building on the success of the establishment of a renewable energy lab in Conakry, Guinea, in 2021, this renewed partnership seeks to scale up the number of labs with tools and resources, focusing on local energy challenges and practical solutions.
These efforts are aimed at empowering local communities and enriching the workforce through various educational tools like online courses, public talks and webinars.
The partnership's flagship online course available on the ITC SME Trade Academy, ‘Become a Player in the Energy Transition,’ has had more than 800 participants from more than 60 countries, with a quarter earning certification.
Through webinars, live demonstrations and targeted events, the partner agencies will engage small businesses to see how clean, efficient energy can support socioeconomic growth and sustainable development of their communities. This partnership will extend to case studies and policy support across various countries, showcasing practical applications and benefits.
The agreement underscores the importance of international collaboration through mentorship, exchange programmes and online platforms, to connect entrepreneurs across the world, fostering a shared learning environment.
The agreement also explores the use of immersive technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality in enhancing the effectiveness of these initiatives.
This memorandum of understanding marks a commitment to promoting green energy and continuous education to support developing countries to make the low-carbon transition, in a sustainable way.
