€1.9m funding from Germany to be targeted at achieving trade-related Global Goals

The Government of Germany has announced that it will make available €1.9 million of funding to the International Trade Centre (ITC) in 2017. The funding will be used to strengthen ITC’s capacities to enable small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to play a greater role in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The cooperation agreement was signed by Ambassador Ulrich Seidenberger, Germany’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, and ITC Executive Director Arancha González at ITC headquarters in Geneva on 22 November 2016.

Specifically, the German support will be directed towards ITC programmes and projects focused on creating environmental and social sustainability, poverty reduction, gender equality and the economic empowerment of women. The funding will also allow ITC to step up its work on increasing access to information on trade and ensure greater transparency in trade.
