    Rwanda’s regional window Sector: Coffee and horticulture sectors

    ITC’s latest export potential assessment in 2016 revealed that Rwandan coffee is internationally competitive and offer good export prospects in the EAC and in the market of the European Union.

    ITC will improve awareness on market requirements to enhance SMEs’ competitiveness and to connect the coffee and tea sectors into value chains. It includes SMEs’ training on compliance with quality-related market requirements, increasing value addition, improving access to finance to SMEs and developing export and investment linkages with the EU and the EAC.

    Some activities are:

    • Develop awareness packs and organize awareness raising events on quality-related requirements (SPS, TBT standards, e-ping alert, rules of origin)
    • Train SMS on coffee roasting identified in the action plan to improve post-harvest techniques. Processing efficiency waste management and innovation
    • Develop a tailored business and strategic plan with financial forecasts and milestones per each SME beneficiary 
    • Facilitate investment partnerships between EAC companies and EU investors.
