Overview

The European Union is advancing new policies to promote more sustainable, transparent, and circular production. At the heart of this shift is the Digital Product Passport (DPP) — a regulatory requirement, under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products regulation (ESPR), expected to be enforced for the textile sector starting in 2027, requiring detailed, standardized digital information on products’ origin, materials, environmental impact, and lifecycle.

For textile and clothing companies aiming to retain access to EU markets and meet future buyer expectations, early preparation is essential. The upcoming DPP will require companies to strengthen their capabilities in sustainability data management, traceability and digitalization across their value chains to significantly increase sustainable products in EU markets.

Digitalization is not just about compliance — it is also a powerful lever to optimize internal processes, supply chain management, resource efficiency, increase competitiveness, and enhance access to certification, finance, and markets. Yet many SMEs face significant challenges in adopting such tools, often lacking the support or resources needed to begin.

This session will introduce how ITC, through the GTEX/MENATEX Phase II programme, aims to help companies building the right foundations to address these challenges and prepare for the DPP.

The webinar's goals are as follows:

Introduce the EU DPP and its regulatory context;

Explain what the DPP will likely require from textile and clothing companies;

Clarify implementation timelines and potential market implications;

Provide recommendations for SMEs readiness, and;

Present ITC's call for interest and future support opportunities under GTEX/MENATEX programme phase 2.

The project focuses on enhancing the textiles and clothing sector in Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, and Sri Lanka to meet evolving market demands and adhere to forthcoming EU regulations. This initiative aims to promote greener practices, sustainability, circularity, and digitalization within the T&C industry. By doing so, it ensures the retention of jobs and the creation of higher value-added positions while supporting economic growth and poverty reduction in these countries. The project operates on two key outcomes: enhancing T&C enterprise competitiveness through sustainable trade and fostering a more effective ecosystem capable of driving systemic change, sustainability, and circularity in the sector. This transformation is vital for manufacturers to maintain access to crucial markets like the EU, US, and Japan, as they increasingly demand responsible and high-quality products. Additionally, the program encourages regional and global cooperation, knowledge sharing, and structural changes within the T&C industry.
