Overview

Sustainable Development Goals
As of 2024, 1.4 million Nigerians live abroad, and 1 in 3 say they hope to migrate—driven largely by the search for better job prospects.
While emigrants contribute over $2 billion in annual remittances, many face barriers abroad, from employment gaps to visa issues. Nigerians returning home possess valuable experiences and skills that can contribute to Nigeria’s economy and communities.
But reintegration isn’t easy. Returnees who have spent significant time abroad deserve structured and respectful support to help them get a softer landing in Nigeria—and start afresh in solid footing.
ARRIVES offers up to one year of customized support that begins in Germany and continues into Nigeria:
- In Germany:
- Voluntary return preparation, with psychosocial support to reduce stress and uncertainty.
- One-on-one coaching to help participants plan and set realistic goals for life back home.
- Upon their arrival in Nigeria:
- Facilitation of cash assistance at the airport secured through the EURP, to help them meet their immediate needs upon arrival.
- After their return to Nigeria:
- Participants select from one of two reintegration pathways: job placement or business startup support. Whichever path they choose, they receive up to 15 personalized coaching from ARRIVES.
- Eligible participants receive up to €2,000 in in-kind support through the European Union Reintegration Programme, plus additional resources available through ARRIVES’ network of partners in Germany and Nigeria.
