A journey in fashion that embodies both resilience and creativity

Initially set to study abroad after high school, Prisha Joshi’s plans were disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. But instead of seeing this as a setback, she embraced it as an opportunity to pursue what truly ignited her passion. “I took the cancellation of my overseas plans as a chance to study what excites me,” Prisha reflects.

She enrolled in Fashion Designing and Management and quickly made a name for herself in the industry, contributing to high-profile events such as ‘Face of Nepal,’ ‘Miss Nepal 2024,’ and the ‘TGIF Fashion Show.’ With a deep-rooted love for fashion, influenced by her mother—a designer herself—Prisha was drawn to the timeless beauty of Pashmina from a young age. “I wanted to create something beautiful to make people beautiful,” she says. “That drive has shaped my vision.”

Having studied at Namuna College of Fashion Technology in Kathmandu, Prisha combines tradition and innovation in her work, with a special focus on pashmina—a symbol of Nepal’s heritage. She believes Pashmina has immense potential to make its mark on the international market. “Pashmina can be styled in various ways, and if properly branded, it has the power to gain international recognition,” Prisha explains.

Recently, Prisha collaborated with fellow designer Anuj Nagarkoti Sharma in a groundbreaking Pashmina Fashion Show. The duo, both in their early twenties, showcased three distinct collections: smart casual, loungewear, and glamour. “We pulled it off with such a tight timeline, and seeing it all come together was immensely satisfying,” Anuj says. For Prisha, the show marked a pivotal milestone in her blossoming career.

Anuj’s passion for fashion began through watching TV shows and running his own clothing store, and like Prisha, the pandemic redirected his career path. Now a student at Namuna College, he’s carving out his niche as a stylist, having worked on projects like Himalayan Roadies and various commercial campaigns.

For both Prisha and Anuj, their journey is filled with both challenges and opportunities. “The industry has given us opportunities, but building a career requires strong networks and refined communication skills,” Anuj reflects. Prisha agrees, emphasizing the need to remain proactive and creative. “We must constantly seek new opportunities, and every challenge motivates me to find creative solutions and keep moving forward,” she adds.

Together, they are making their mark on Nepal’s fashion scene, with a special focus on Pashmina—an iconic product that blends rich tradition with modern flair. As they navigate the competitive landscape, they aim to inspire a new generation of entrepreneurs to follow their dreams with determination and purpose. “Fashion is not just about style; it’s about courage, resilience, and staying true to one’s roots,” Prisha advises aspiring designers. “My advice is simple: remember why you started. This is not an easy journey, but it’s incredibly rewarding if you stay committed to your vision.”

Both Prisha and Anuj recognize the importance of networking and consistent work. “There are many opportunities for emerging designers, but we must maintain strong relationships with prospective clients and develop our communication skills,” Anuj notes. Prisha concurs, adding, “We also need to be proactive in seeking out opportunities and continually being creative.”

Looking ahead, Prisha has big plans for her career. “In ten years, I see my brand blending Nepal’s heritage with modern design,” she shares. She envisions expanding globally through sustainable practices and uplifting local artisans. Prisha dreams of creating a fashion institute in Nepal that will empower young talent and foster the next generation of designers. For Anuj, his goal is to style for internationally renowned brands and celebrities, reaching new heights in the global fashion industry.
