Finland and ITC agree to continue and strengthen efforts to make it easier for women to participate in trade — locally, regionally and globally.

ITC’s Executive Director Patricia Francis on 26 July welcomed HE Ms Päivi Kairamo, Finland’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN and international organizations Geneva. Ms Kairamo, who presented her credentials to the UN’s Director-General on 2 July, was previously Secretary-General and Chief of Cabinet of the President of the Republic of Finland.

Ms Francis expressed gratitude for the support Finland has contributed to ITC over the years and particularly the support it has shown for ITC’s Aid for Trade programme in past few years. The Ambassador was also briefed on how Finnish funding is making a difference to the programmes they contribute to.

As gender issues are very important to Finland, Ms Kairamo pointed out that her country was pleased with the work ITC is doing to help bring women out of poverty. The two nevertheless agreed that should continue to discuss in detail how to expand on this and help more women participate in the local, regional and global economy.
