Philippines game development companies win European buyers at Nordic Game 2023
For a first Philippine participation in Nordic Game, Philippine companies scored an impressive US$ 1.67 million in actual and potential export sales during the event held in Malmö, Sweden.
Five Philippine companies from the game development sector participated in Europe's leading game developer conference from 23 to 26 May 2023, in Malmö, Sweden. Accompanied with the Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP), the companies met and engaged with regional and international industry professionals and executives in the game development community, making invaluable connections and displaying their products and services.
The participants engaged in an array of thrilling feature activities of Nordic Game, including speaking engagements from leading industry figures in the region and renowned global experts, business matching meetings, and trade fairs.
Marking the first-ever Philippine participation in Europe's premier game developer conference, the 5 Philippine companies brought back home 71 additional trade leads from their 25+ business-to-business meetings, which they hope to convert into business deals in the future.
“Our participation in this event under ARISE Plus Philippines encouraged us to widen our perspective and vision in reaching new markets in the EU. We now have a bigger vision of how we want to proceed and make our strategic plans more sustainable soon,” said Alexis Geronga, Business Development Manager of GameOps Inc.
“We are pleased with the achievements of Philippines MSMEs at Nordic Game. This highlights the potential of these companies to create world-class innovative products. Business linkages created because of this participation will increase their competitiveness and ability to tap into European and international markets” said Ms. Sylvie Bétemps Cochin, ARISE Plus Project Manager, ITC.
The Delegation also embarked on inspiring visits to studios in Malmö, to exchange with and learn from their Swedish peers.
The five companies – GameOps, Inc., Neun Farben Corporation, Mata Technologies, Inc., Seaversity Inc., and Taktyl Studios – are part of the pool of game development companies selected to receive export marketing and market linkages support under ARISE Plus Philippines.
This is part of the country’s efforts to build linkages with potential European clients and diversify export markets for Philippine game development companies.
The ARISE Plus Philippines project is enabling Philippine exporters to take advantage of European Union (EU) market access and the trade privileges granted under the Generalized System of Preference (GSP+). It supports the overall EU-Philippines trade relationship and trade-related policies.
ARISE Plus Philippines is a project of the Government of the Philippines, with the Department of Trade and Industry as lead partner together with the Department of Agriculture, Food and Drug Administration, Bureau of Customs, the Department of Science and Technology, as well as the private sector. It is funded by the EU with the International Trade Centre (ITC) as the technical agency for the project.
