ITC’s first Trade for Sustainable Development (T4SD) Forum, a unique global event dedicated to exploring the complex landscape of sustainability standards, methodologies and tools to benchmark and compare such standards and codes of conduct, will be held in Geneva on 1-2 October 2014. The T4SD Forum will bring together representatives of standards organizations, developers and users of the various methodologies and tools as well as high level private sector participants to share good practices and identify new opportunities for collaboration. The event will benefit from five years of development work conducted under ITC’s partnership-based T4SD programme, which is aimed at strengthening the capacity of suppliers, buyers and policymakers to participate in more sustainable production and trade, and will reinforce the commitment to trade-led sustainable development in the year of ITC’s 50th anniversary. The Opening Session of this event will be held as part of the WTO Public Forum on 1 October, focusing on sustainability standards that protect the workers, the environment, and consumers. The session will relate to the WTO Forum's showcasing the connections between trade and the daily lives of people through trade and jobs, trade and consumers and trade and Africa. This will be followed by a full day event on 2 October held at the WMO, specializing in the perspectives of suppliers and buyers in how standards should be implemented, the harmonization that benefits them and ITC's core principles for sustainability standards.
