Womenexporters.com is a new ITC website offering trade information and regional networking opportunities to businesswomen in Africa under ITC’s Programme for building African Capacity for Trade (PACT II). The site, launched as part of the ACCESS! programme for African Businesswomen in International Trade earlier this month, also serves as a platform for importers who seek to source from women entrepreneurs and reliable suppliers in the continent.
The new site covers a large number of topics and services of use to women exporters, including:
- An Exporter Training Package. This part of the site focuses on the sectors most relevant to African women exporters, such as coffee, leather, horticulture, textile, handicraft and the service sector. It comprises case studies and specific examples that can be used by trainers in their national training programmes.
- An interactive online training course. As well as the training resources mentioned above, the ACCESS! website will soon include online courses. These can be used by certified trainers giving courses to the business community or by other institutions interested in joining the training network.
- Exporters’ profiles. The site offers a user-friendly database of African exporters working in key sectors, such as food processing, textiles and spices, to mention just a few.
- Trade data, market information and export strategy support. These are the facts needed to enable exporters and importers to capitalize upon economic opportunities.
- Information on national, regional and global partners improving women entrepreneurship in Africa. Including website addresses and email contact data, here exporters will find how best to get in touch with trade supporters focused on their target audience and working in specific countries, regions or even the global market.
- Information on major trade events in the region. This section will provide information on marketing events planned by ITC and its partners in promoting African products on the foreign markets.
“We hope the ACCESS! website will soon become a key point of reference for women entrepreneurs in Africa,” said Constantine Bartel, who heads ITC’s Office for Africa. ITC is implementing the PACT II programme and ACCESS! jointly with the Secretariats of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) and the Economic Community of Western African States (ECOWAS). The programme is financed by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). The ACCESS! website is available in English (womenexporters.com) and French (femmesexportatrices.com).
