Peru Alpaca project
ITC invites women business owners and buyers interested in sourcing from women vendors, to
join the Global Platform for Action on Sourcing from Women Vendors.
ITC is active in building women’s capacity to meet buyers’ requirements. One of our projects that has generated over USD1 million in sales for beneficiaries in 18 months, focused assistance on women in alpaca in Arequipa, Peru. See the video and brochure. ITC works with institutions such as Promperú and organisations like SPINNA to ensure sustained support through linking women entrepreneurs to networks active in capacity building and sales.

Women in coffee in Africa
ITC, in cooperation with the
International Women’s Coffee Alliance (IWCA), supports the establishment of women’s associations in the coffee sector, so-called IWCA country chapters. The project focuses primarily on East Africa. IWCA chapters empower women in
the coffee sector through a national and international network of peers – a way
of cooperating that has worked well in Central America for several years.
Through the chapters women work together to solve issues they face collectively, advancing socially and economically. The project includes components on leadership training, micro-finance and branding and is available to coffee entrepreneurs primarily in Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.

Mexico Jewellery Project
There is great opportunity for women-owned businesses in the jewellery sector in Mexico. Empowering Mexican Women Business Enterprises in the Silver Jewellery and Beads Industry aims to link such enterprises with buyers in the United States. The initiative will also build the capacity of trade support institutions so that they are better able to provide assistance to the business owners to reach diverse markets.
ITC chose Mexico as one of the countries in which women-owned businesses will be linked to buyers in the United States as a result of ITC’s commitment during the 2009 Annual Asia Pacific Economic Commission (APEC) to contribute to the promotion of inter-regional trade among APEC countries.
