List of Sectors

A priority sector is assigned to a document only when it clearly focuses on specific economic sectors which have been considered particularly strategic for the achievement of the objectives envisaged by the strategy. The entry is left blank in case priorities are not clearly set. The wording has been left as close as possible to how it originally appears in the document (although always translated into English).

The original sectors have been grouped in 18 categories following ITC sector classification so as to help getting oriented in the website.

Types of Export Strategy Document

The Export Strategy Map classifies documents according to seven main types:

Diagnostic Trade Integration Studies (DTISs);
ITC National Export Strategies (NESs);
ITC Sector Export Strategies (SESs);
Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSPs);
United Nations Development Assistance Frameworks (UNDAFs);
National Strategies;
Other Strategies.

NESs, SESs, PRPSs, DTISs and UNDAFs constitute the main framework of assistance set up by the international community for developing and Least Developed Countries (LDCs). As such, they were also the main source of reference to additional strategies to be included in Export Strategy Map.
In addition to these main categories, National Development Plans, National Visions/Agendas, sector development plans and other initiatives designed or endorsed by national ministries represent a large part of the database and have been labelled as National Strategies. All other documents constitute the residual Other Strategies type.
