Which inputs for fertilization and crop protection are allowed in organic farming?

In general, organic farming is based on the establishment of a balanced farm management system, which is based on re-cycling, inter-cropping and/or crop rotation. Hence, in principle, fertilizers and pesticides are not allowed in organic farming. However, most standards and regulations provide for the use of certain specified inputs under exceptional circumstances. Those input products allowed are usually listed in positive lists. In general, these lists contain inputs of organic or natural origin, and synthetic fertilizers and crop protection measures are not allowed. More details and links to specific regulations and standards are available under the section "Standards and Regulations".
