     What is forest management certification?

Forest management certification programmes mainly assess ecological aspects of resource management, both at the forest and at the species or product level. Many different programmes exist on the international, regional and national level, which focus almost exclusively on timber products and include natural products only marginally. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international network promoting sustainable forest management. It sets standards and accredits third party certification bodies, which certifies forest managers and forest products producers according to these standards. More information on FSC is available at www.fsc.org
