On 18, 19 and 21 Feb 2020, the International Trade Centre (ITC) organized three stakeholders’ workshop in Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar on EU regulation on food safety, import controls and plant health. The events gathered 90 participants from relevant competent authorities in Myanmar and the private sector in Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw. It aimed to increase awareness of participants of EU market requirements, with a view to improve their food safety control system in general, and in particular to strengthen their national food and plant inspection system with a focus on market surveillance and export inspection based on risk assessment.
The Arise Plus Myanmar project was officially launched on 18 October 2019 in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, with project partners, including the Ministry of Commerce of Myanmar and the European Union Delegation to Myanmar.
On 6 September 2019, ITC organized a workshop on Business Advocacy with Mandalay Regional Chambers of Commerce and Industries (MRCCI). 48 participants from MRCCI, regional associations and other private sector stakeholders based in Mandalay and the surrounding region benefited from extensive capacity building to (1) Obtain a good understanding of public policy and the role of advocacy and dialogue in the policy making process, (2) Learn techniques on how to engage with policy makers, and (3) Develop action plans for the way forward for their organisation. There was very positive feedback with request for more such workshops and engagement. The interactive nature of the workshop was especially appreciated by the audience.
