To raise awareness on how policymakers can use creative industries to boost trade and development, ITC along with WIPO, UNESCO and UNDP have contributed to the ‘Creative Economy Report’, coordinated and launched by UNCTAD.

13.45 – 14.45 Special Event: Launching of the United Nations Chief Executives Board (CEB) Inter-Agency Cluster on Trade and Productive Capacity
This cluster, created in 2007, is designed to further improve coordination of trade-related technical assistance. Executive Director Patricia Francis will explain the new ITC's vision and how it complements and reinforces the work of the United Nations to make trade work for development.

10.00 – 13.00 Round Table 1: “Globalization, development and poverty reduction: their social and gender dimensions”
On a panel that includes the President of Finland, Ministers from Mali and the Netherlands and UN representatives, Executive Director Patricia Francis will focus on export impact for good. Ensuring trade development generates the income necessary to contribute to poverty reduction, development and the fulfilment of MDGs. Specific examples will be provided of ITC connecting the marginalized, including women entrepreneurs, to global markets.

ITC Director Aichatou Pouye will bring ITC’s experience to the discussion and make available ITC publication ‘Gender Equality, Export Performance and Competitiveness’.

15.00 – 17.00 Free Dialogue: “From Fashion to African communities and the Millennium Development Goals”
ITC is organizing this event with Agoralumiere, an NGO mandated to organize Creative Africa events at UNCTAD XII. This session picks up the concept of the global value chain presented earlier in the week, but from a different perspective: from fashion... back to cotton. A dialogue with African designers, manufacturers, buyers, government and development agencies will look at how to grow business in an ethical way, contributing to the Millennium Development Goals. The event will also showcase ITC´s work with disadvantaged African communities to be reliable suppliers for ethical fashion collections in luxury markets.
