The Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) network facilitates the dynamic exchange of information, good practices, experiences and collaboration among TPOs and between networks of TPOs. It helps individual organizations reap the full benefits of the synergies of TPOs working together and learning from each other. The annual TPO Network World Conference and Awards provide further opportunity for organizations to share best practices and be recognized by their peers.

    Information

Trade Promotion organizations (TPOs) provide support to the private and the public sectors and, as such, face very specific challenges: they are required to provide public benefits while also behaving as private sector companies. They are requested to produce very detailed and specific reports of their impact, while having very little direct control over the ultimate outcome they seek: increased exports.
The uniqueness of their situation requires an exchange of good practices and practical experiences to improve their operations and enhance their performance. It is the close interaction between TPOs within and across regions that permits them to identify markets and partners for their clientele as well as for their own activities and benefits.

The TPO Network is the platform for this. The TPO Network links TPOs and networks of TPOs to enrich their knowledge and activities by promoting the exchange of good practices and experiences.  Organizations mandated by their national Governments to be the primary body for trade promotion activities can join the ITC TPO Network forum. For full membership information and requirements, please visit http://www.tponetwork.net.

    Data and Research

Collecting good practices, experiences and sources of information that can provide be use to TPOs in different areas of their practice and activities is an ongoing process for ITC.
Different sources of information are used for this purpose. See http://www.tponetwork.net for details.

    Projects

The TPO Network’s global meeting is a key opportunity to exchange practices and build relationships. The TPO Network World Conference and Awards were held 13 to 15 October 2010 in Mexico City, Mexico. They have been hosted biennially since 1995 by ITC and one member of the network.
Since 2004, the TPO Network Awards have been granted to TPOs to recognise their outstanding achievements. National TPOs compete for these awards in country categories. The winners for the 2010 version of the TPO Network Awards were United Kingdom Trade and Investment (UKTI) in the developed county category, ApexBrasil in the developing country category, and Enterprise Mauritius in the Small Island Developing State category.

The 2010 TPO Network World Conference and Awards mandated ITC to develop a working programme and a series of activities to ensure the TPO Network fosters the development and strengthening of regional networks of TPOs in the areas where they are not sufficiently developed. This is an ongoing project for the coming years.
