Understanding the global demand for environmental goods and services can unlock new export opportunities for developing country SMEs. This study provides a market overview of this complex sector, which reached an estimated US$ 866 billion in 2011, and is expected to rise to US$ 1.9 trillion by 2020. It has the latest information on moves to reduce both tariff and non-tariff barriers to environmental goods, and harmonize standard lists for environmental goods and services in APEC and WTO. It provides practical suggestions for SMEs to tap into this fast-growing sector: it addresses these exports within the overall green supply chain, and puts an accent on the relation between trade in goods and technology transfer as well as services.
