The objective of the Trade and Environment Programme (TEP) is to strengthen the competitiveness of developing countries in environmental markets and to overcome barriers that might result from environment-related standards. ITC builds capacity of small and medium-sized enterprises and trade-support institutions in selected sectors, including organic and biodiversity products, and carbon standards for agricultural products.
Assisting Developing Country Exporters in Exploring Environmental Market Opportunities
TEP carries out its work through three modes of support:
- Capacity building for companies and trade support institutions on meeting market requirements;
- Strengthening market linkages through trade fair preparation and participation;
- Publishing market studies and guides on sustainability related markets.

Currently, TEP focuses on two main areas of the environmental market:

For the most up-to-date information on our projects and activities, you can also follow us on Twitter @ITCenvironment or read the ITC Environment Blog.
All of ITC's trade and environment related publications can be accessed through our website here.
The TEP is also responsible for mainstreaming environment into ITC programmes and processes and coordinating the reduction of ITC’s own carbon footprint.
TEP Mid-term Evaluation
In 2012, ITC has an independent mid-term evaluation carried out for the Trade and Environment Programme. The overall purpose of the evaluation is to learn from the implementation of the TEP so that lessons can be drawn that can form the basis for instituting improvements to the planning, design and management of the second phase of the programme.The mid-term evaluation report can be downloaded

“No issue is more central to economic growth and development. No issue is more vital to the well-being of billions of people, particularly in the poorest countries in the world… We can catch two birds – climate change and economic growth – with one stone: prosperity will come to those who take a low carbon path.”
(Ban-ki Moon, Secretary General, United Nations, 17 August, 2009) |
