The project aims to reduce cross border trade impediments in fragile and conflict-affected environments by building advisory capacities of trade service providers operating in border counties (Grand Cape Mount and Lofa in Liberia, Southern and Eastern Sierra Leone).Trade service providers, with a particular emphasis on young service providers and youth enterprises, will be supported to advise on cross-border trade requirements (Sierra Leone) and to provide market information via mobile phones (Liberia). Cross border traders, market women, farmers and Micro, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSMEs) in the border areas between Sierra Leone and Liberia will thus have access to information about compliance with cross border formalities as well as to relevant market information. The project will build on results of previous ITC activities in both countries and focus on economic opportunities for youth. Increased and more efficient crossborder trade flows will be supported for rice, fish, cassava, palm oil and spices, product groups which are key for food security in the Mano River Union region and West Africa.
