Programme objectives
|
|
|
|
PACT-Ethiopia
constitutes part of the response to the national challenges of
the export sector and will commit resources on realizing the
following immediate objectives: |
|
|
- Creating
direct business contacts by joining selected Ethiopian
exporters with potential Canadian and European buyers via
trade information workshops, trade fair participation and
business contact missions and individual follow-up activities,
all in partnership with relevant public and private sector
business support institutions;
|
- Enhancing
the trade information services available to existing and
potential Ethiopian exporters through a strengthening of the
web-based delivery of relevant trade information including
market briefs, price information, market research tools and
trade development information by the Export Promotion
Department (EPD) in partnership with the Addis Ababa Chamber
of Commerce and specific export sector business associations
and in coordination with other ongoing trade information
improvement projects particularly the project currently
underway with CBI and ITC.
|
|
Target groups |
|
|
- Under this
program, PACT targets small and medium enterprises
particularly in the
hand loomed home furnishing textiles, the garment industry,
and in the leather garments/accessories sector. The relevant
sector associations and government institutions supporting
these enterprises are also a target for these enterprise
oriented support activities and will be involved in the
identification and selection of SMEs chosen to participate in
market development activities.
|
-
As a response to improving the
institutional trade support capacity, the Export Promotion
Department in partnership with the Chamber of commerce and
relevant sector associations are the target for the trade
information enhancement activities. Ultimately, these
enhancements will benefit potential and existing Ethiopian
exporters of all sizes and from a wide range of sectors.
