| Global markets for organic agri-food
and natural products are growing and worth approximately US$40 billion.
For developing countries, this growth presents export earning potential
as well as a market-based way to mitigate against and adapt to climate
change, protect local environmental benefit and generate biodiversity
gains. However, developing countries face serious obstacles to export
organic products including high quality demands of buyers, lack of information
about standards, certification, markets trends and potential importing
partners. ITC works with small companies and trade support institutions
in overcoming these obstacles and improving access to international markets.
The objective of ITC's programme on organic trade is twofold:
- To strengthen the competitiveness of SMEs and community enterprises
and the capacity of TSIs
- To provide support to policy makers on organic agreements and trade
Through its technical assistance, ITC supports exporters of organic
products and trade support institutions in developing countries through
a number of channels. Follow the links below to read more about ITC's
technical assistance in this area.
