Regional Conference in Asia

Consumer demand for safe and environmentally friendly products is driving the growth in organic agriculture across the globe. Asia has huge potential to meet international demand as well as develop its own regional markets. Organic agriculture is also recognized as having strong potential for poverty reduction and climate change adaptation and mitigation. To address these issues, the International Trade Centre organized a three-day Regional Conference on Organic Agriculture financed by the European Commission and the International Trade Centre under the Asia Trust Fund.

The meeting informed participants about:

  • Recent developments in EU and US markets for organic products

  • Trade and market development in the Asian region

  • Import requirements in the EU and US

  • International harmonization and equivalence

  • Organic agriculture, poverty reduction and climate change
