ITC-developed Tradezimbabwe.com unveiled in Harare

Zimbabwe has launched its first-ever trade information portal (TIP), TradeZimbabwe.com, providing for the first time single-point access on up-to-date trade, economic and regulatory information for the country’s business community.

Funded by the European Union (EU) and developed by the International Trade Centre (ITC) through the Next Generation Trade Intelligence Portals project, the portal was unveiled in Harare on 9 June by Zimbabwe’s Minister of Industry and Commerce Mike Bimha, and the Head of the EU Delegation to Zimbabwe, Ambassador Philippe Van Damme.

Tradezimbabwe.com offers access to trade news, information on trade regulations, duties, trade agreements, taxes, customs procedures, useful contacts, and other services designed to support businesses in decision-making. In addition, it contains market profiles of selected countries, priority manufacturing sub-sector briefs, government policies and regulations on international trade, and Zimbabwe’s trade agreements.

Two-way trade information

Showcasing local companies and export products, Tradezimbabwe.com has been conceived as a two-way highway, providing key information both to Zimbabwean entrepreneurs interested in foreign markets, and to entrepreneurs in other countries interested in doing business with Zimbabwe.

Tradezmbabwe.com also features online tools, such as the ZimTrade Virtual Library, the Zimbabwe-European Union Business Information Centre (Zim-EBIC), a live chat service and an extensive set of classified links to other leading information resources, including ITC’s Market Analysis Tools, Market Insider, Library and the SME Trade Academy for e-learning opportunities.

Speaking at the launch of the portal, Ambassador van Damme said: ‘One of the objectives of TIPs such as Tradezimbabwe.com is to increase the visibility of companies engaged in international trade and create a trustworthy trade environment. This is achieved by hosting directories of registered companies engaged in trade so that they gain worldwide visibility at a fraction of the cost.’
