West Asian state can benefit from enhanced global trade

The Executive Director of the International Trade Centre (ITC), Arancha González, congratulated Yemen’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Dr Saadaldeen Ali Salim Talib, whose country will become the 160th member of the World Trade Organization (WTO) on 26 June 2014.

Ms González spoke about the opportunities which would open up for Yemen following the deposit of the instrument of acceptance to the WTO by Dr Talib on 27 May 2014.

Yemen applied for WTO membership in April 2000 and completed its application process in September 2013. WTO trade ministers approved Yemen’s accession in December 2013 during the Ninth Ministerial Conference in Bali, Indonesia.

During a call on Ms González at the ITC headquarters in Geneva on 28 May, Dr Talib welcomed support for trade development in Yemen after the country’s accession to the WTO. The Executive Director said ITC would be pleased to see Yemen prosper socio-economically, and the organization has the expertise to assist the country in realising its ambitions to trade with the world.
