€1.9m German funding to target poverty reduction, gender equality and sustainability in value chains.

The Government of Germany has announced that it will provide €1.9 million of funding for the International Trade Centre (ITC) in 2018. As in previous years, the funding will be used to strengthen ITC’s capacities to enable micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to play a greater role in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The cooperation agreement was signed by Ambassador Ulrich Seidenberger, Germany’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, and ITC Executive Director Arancha González at ITC headquarters in Geneva on 28 November 2017.

Specifically, the German support will be directed towards ITC programmes and projects targeting poverty reduction, transparency in trade, strengthening trade and investment support institutions, and the economic empowerment of women. The funding will also allow ITC to step up its work on increasing sustainability in value chains, especially through the Trade for Sustainable Development programme.
