A matchmaking event hosted by the International Trade Centre’s NTFII Bangladesh team in Dhaka at the beginning of March last year saw led to two companies forge what has proven to be a stable relationship.
Bangladeshi company Nascenia IT won a new customer and a satisfied client in Denmark, the Copenhagen-based Better Collective, a web publishing company that is focused on developing, designing, writing, and marketing for the web.
After building trust and learning about each other’s operations, Better Collective hired Nascenia to set up many of the company’s websites in MODX, a content management system written in PHP. The two businesses are now in discussions to engage more resources to build a web application in which Ruby on Rails may be used as a technology.
‘We tested many waters before we came here, but now Nascenia is our trusted partner,’ said Mr Thomas Høgenhaven, Chief Strategy Officer at Better Collective.
Better Collective was attracted to the Bangladeshi company because it is a pure technology firm, which means it no longer has concerns about constraints on its own tech team, said Mr Shaer Hassan, Chief Executive Officer at Nascenia.
Focus: building great websites‘We know what we can do and what we cannot do, and we let our clients know that,’ he said. “Nascenia is focused on doing what they do best: building great websites and applications.”
The relationship between the two companies has gone beyond business. First Jesper Søgaard, CEO of Better Collective, invited a team from Nascenia to Denmark. Then Høgenhaven, along with three other members of Better Collective’s management team, traveled to Dhaka in February to meet Nascenia’s team, which has almost doubled to 22 employees from 12 since the matchmaking event took place. The visit gave both sides a chance to get to know each other in a relaxed setting, Shaer said.
“We took the whole team, along with the visitors, to Sundarban on a boat tour,” he said. “We sailed for a couple of days. We had fun, got to know each other better and talked business.” The only disappointment was that they did not manage to spot a swamp tiger!
