What is a market brief?

The term Market Brief is used throughout the Guide to designate any market survey which satisfies the following conditions. A market brief should be:

  • Of a sectoral nature: dealing with a single product or with a group of homogeneous products
  • Of limited geographical coverage: dealing with one market or group of markets which share similar characteristics, such as the European Community
  • Concise: presenting an analysis of the main market and marketing characteristics
  • Of a practical nature: containing the type of information necessary to enable exporters to take specific marketing decisions and actions

Market briefs should be easy to prepare within a short period of time, entailing little outlay, and to rapidly disseminate to target audiences in order to maximize the use of the information they contain.
