The company's activity is leather tanning of cow hides and goat and sheep skins into wet blue leather for export. Some quantity of skins is processed into finished leather for local market. The tannery was established in 1987. It currently employs 40 people. The yearly turnover of the company is about USD 1.5MILLION. The company is undergoing expansion by adding more tanning drums and other machinery so that it can increase its production which is expected to increase turnover to USD 2.5 million by the end of 2006. |
| Cooperation Sought: |
The company is seeking either joint venture or partnership or marketing tie up by which the expansion can be undertaken even further taking into account the large number of hides and skins available in the country which at present are mostly exported in raw. The Government of Tanzania is encouraging value added of its raw material and to this effect they have kept in place a very attractive incentive package for the leather industry. The company intends in the near future to embark on further processing into crust leather and then export. |
