The Bolgatanga Tanning Association is located in the Bolgatanga municipal area of the Upper East Region of Ghana and was formed in 1990. It comprises 7 small-scale tanneries operating individually with a total labour force of 164. The industry is a traditional one, manually processed from the beginning to the end, and has been in existence for generations. The hides are marketed locally. It is a major avenue for income generation in the community. It has an annual turnover of approximately US$400,000. |
| Cooperation Sought: |
The Association wishes to increase production and improve on the quality of products. However, we require assistance in capacity building, and upgrading tanneries from small-scale to medium-scale production. We also seek access to external and improved domestic markets for our products. We also need partnership or joint ventures with both foreign and local companies. |
