The NTF III Kenya project seeks to improve livelihood and increase export revenues of SMEs by enhancing export competitiveness of the IT and IT-enabled services (ITES) sector in Kenya.IT & ITES sector in Kenya? Following a decade of rapid urbanization and strong economic growth, Kenya is nicknamed “Silicon Savannah” for its growing wave of innovation. Multinational companies such as Google, Microsoft, IBM and SAP have established offices in the country, signifying their confidence in the potential of Kenyan IT & ITES sector. The sector is especially unique for its worldwide lead in the mobile payment and sophisticated IT hub structure. Who will benefit?The NTF III project works directly with 33 selected beneficiary IT & ITES SMEs to increase export competitiveness of the sector. The main trade support institution beneficiary of the project is Kenya IT and Outsourcing Services (KITOS). Other companies that are not direct beneficiaries of the project and Kenya as a country will also benefit from enhanced sector competitiveness, increased export revenues, and job creation.How will they benefit?In order to achieve this end, the NTF III project will 1) develop and validate a sector export plan to act as a strategic and operational roadmap for IT & ITES sector, 2) strengthen export capacity of selected exporting SMEs, 3) improve institutional, marketing, and managerial capacity of KITOS to provide export-related services to SMEs, and 4) expand actual business linkages and partnerships in target export markets, during the implementation period 2014-2017.
