Trade statistics

  • Understanding the structure and evolution of international markets is essential for both firms and trade support institutions (TSIs).

Firms scanning the world market for opportunities to diversify products, markets and suppliers, and TSIs setting priorities in terms of trade promotion, sectoral performance, partner countries and trade development strategies must have detailed statistical information on international trade flows in order to utilize resources effectively.

Trade Map is free to use and provides trade statistics and market access information for export development. By transforming the large volume of primary trade data into an accessible, user-friendly, web-based format, Trade Map provides indicators on export performance, international demand, alternative markets and the role of competitors. Trade Map covers yearly trade data for 220 countries and territories and all 5,300 products of the Harmonized System.

Trade data is also available at the tariff line level monthly or quarterly for around 100 countries, and annually for an additional 60.

A limited version of Trade Map is accessible without registration for product trade flows up to the 4-digit level of the Harmonized System (HS) and for trade in services, via the following links:

Trade Map is part of a suite of ITC developed Market Analysis Tools, free for all users thanks to support from the European Commission (CE) and other donors to ITC’s Trust Fund.

The tools – Trade Map, Market Access Map, Investment Map and Standards Map – collectively help improve international trade transparency and enable companies and trade support institutions to identify export / import opportunities and compare market access requirements (e.g. tariffs, official market regulations and other non tariff measures as well as private voluntary standards like organic certification or FAIRTRADE). The tools also help trade policy makers monitor national trade performance and prepare for trade negotiations.

Free user support material, including video trainings, is also available online.

PC-TAS: Five-year time series of international trade statistics available on CD-ROM in HS or SITC classification.
