Gerry Lynch was appointed as Director for Programme Support in May 2015 after serving 7 years as Chief, Information Technology & Systems.Mr Lynch has enjoyed an extensive career with the United Nations in various capacities and duty stations. His career started as a Field Service Officer (Telecommunications) with the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) when posted to Lebanon in 1991 with the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). He then served in the former Yugoslavia from 1992-1996, followed by assignments to Iraq and the Central African Republic. In 1999 Mr Lynch was assigned to UN headquarters to support DPKO missions in East Timor, Sierra Leone and Kosovo.In 2002 Mr Lynch moved to the Netherlands to take up a position with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) as the IT Operations Officer. During his tenure there he was heavily involved in automating the tribunal’s courtroom operations from paper to electronic based ‘eCourts’. He was also responsible for providing a diverse range of IT services and streamlining business processes against industry standards. Mr Lynch is originally from New Zealand. He holds a master’s degree in Leadership and Management from Portsmouth University and a Certificate in Corporate Good Governance for the Public Sector with the Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy (CIPFA) UK.
