The International Trade Centre (ITC) will hold a workshop in Doha, Qatar, on 7 December to help exporters prioritise products and markets for export. The workshop on ITC’s market Analysis Tools is being held in collaboration with the Qatar Export Development Agency “TASDEER”, a division of Qatar Development Bank (QDB).

Local exporters and staff from TASDEER will be shown how ITC’s Market Analysis Tools: Trade Map and Market Access Map can help them assess existing markets and product portfolios and identify opportunities for market and product diversification.

In 2010 petroleum gas represented about 90% of Qatar’s total exports in value terms, according to ITC’s Trade Map. One of the key challenges facing many developing countries is how to reduce the concentration of their export portfolio in order to reduce their vulnerability to external shocks and boost economic growth and incomes. ITC’s Trade Map and other market analysis tools help countries easily identify performing products, growing markets and assess the competitive environment.

Mr. Anders Aeroe, Director, Division of Market Development, ITC said: “In 2010, users said ITC’s tools significantly improved the quality of their export/import decisions. We are confident that this workshop will help TASDEER and Qatari exporters use the tools’ full potential to explore export opportunities.”

Mr. Hassan Khalifa Al Mansoori, Executive Director of Qatar Export Development Agency “TASDEER”, also added: “In line with TASDEER’s objective to assist the private sector in developing and promoting exports of non-oil Qatari origin products, I hope this workshop will provide good insights into trade flows and customs tariff which are essential for assessment of trade potential in a target country.”

ITC’s Market Analysis Tools are free for users in Qatar and other developing countries. They are the entry point to the world’s largest database on trade and tariffs and enable exporters to carry out market research and assess export potential.

This is the first collaboration between ITC and TASDEER, which was launched in January 2011 as a division of Qatar Development Bank (QDB), to support Qatari companies to increase their export activity through providing access to financial and advisory products and services.
