The application “The Institution Manager’s Briefcase” has a left sided Table of Contents. You can change the with of the Table of Contents by clicking on the separator line and dragging it leftwards. Try to keep the table of contents as narrow as possible in order to benefit from a bigger screen for the actual contents presented in the Guide. Once the application opened up in the Internet browser you could additionally go to the “View” Menu and chose “Full Screen” in order to maximise the screen.
The Table of Contents uses little books & to indicate chapters. Open every chapter by clicking on the book. You will then see a list of sub-chapters indicated by the symbol of a page ¯. You can now either open every single subchapter of your choice by clicking on the ¯ or use the navigation buttons on the top right of the content page to click through every chapter in a sequence.
The application also has an index (see Bar on Table of Contents – chose “Index”). Double click on an indexed word to jump to the page where the word was found.
The application also offers full text search (see Bar on Table of Contents – chose “Search”). Enter the word you search and the Guide gives you the list of sub-chapters where you will find this word. Double click to one of the sub-chapters to jump to the page.
In every sub-chapter you will have hyperlinks to Web sites or to linked documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Pdf) indicated by a light blue underlined text and a little hand appearing when you move your mouse over the link. You can open the link by double clicking on it.
If you have opened a linked document or Web site in the Guide you can always go back to the text by the Back button of the Internet browser ļ or by closing the opened document.
If you want to fully see and work with a linked document (e.g. the budget template) it is recommended to save the document to your disk drive. Mostly, the application asks before opening the linked document if you want to save it to your disk. You can also save the document by using the left mouse click and chose "save".
If you want to print pages from the guide or a linked document use the left mouse click and chose "print".
