Tips for Creating Logos

(© Alter, S., “Managing the Double Bottom Line: A Business Planning Guide for Social Enterprises”, Save The Children, Washington, 1999)

  • A logo is a visual picture that reminds people of who your organization is and what it does.
  • Logos can be abstract.
  • Don’t try to tell a complicated story with a logo; keep it simple (it needs to be easily reproducible/printable).
  • Logos should use symbols that are easy to remember and recognize.
  • Put the name of your organization under your logo to reinforce identification.
  • Keep in mind that colours, shapes and symbols have different meanings in different cultures.
  • Do your research in order to assess if other organizations are using a similar logo or not.
  • Employ a graphic designer or use a computer program to help create a logo.
