People motivation and on -he-job development are cornerstones of good human resources management. Every people manager has to:

  • continuously monitor his team members’ performance,
  • provide timely feedback on a regular basis
  • hold annual appraisal meetings (based on agreed objectives and tasks) and
  • allow through this learning process a further development of his/her staff.

This policy should apply to all people working for your institution regardless of their status as full-time employees, independent contractors or volunteers.

In general, an employee appraisal form covers the following areas and should be worked through with fixed staff, independent contractors and volunteers:

  1. Date of appraisal and employee name
  2. Brief description of job objectives
  3. Job accomplishments in the past year
  4. Successes and target achievements
  5. Key abilities and strengths demonstrated by the employee
  6. Issues or deficiencies
  7. Key improvement areas
  8. Overall rating, satisfaction
  9. Agreement on work objectives and improvement actions (e.g. training)
  10. Discussion of short and mid-term perspective, professional career path
