People motivation and on -he-job development are cornerstones of good human resources management. Every people manager has to:
- continuously monitor his team members’ performance,
- provide timely feedback on a regular basis
- hold annual appraisal meetings (based on agreed objectives and tasks) and
- allow through this learning process a further development of his/her staff.
This policy should apply to all people working for your institution regardless of their status as full-time employees, independent contractors or volunteers.
In general, an employee appraisal form covers the following areas and should be worked through with fixed staff, independent contractors and volunteers:
- Date of appraisal and employee name
- Brief description of job objectives
- Job accomplishments in the past year
- Successes and target achievements
- Key abilities and strengths demonstrated by the employee
- Issues or deficiencies
- Key improvement areas
- Overall rating, satisfaction
- Agreement on work objectives and improvement actions (e.g. training)
- Discussion of short and mid-term perspective, professional career path
