  • Improving and Maintaining Market Access through Standards and Conformity Assessment

    What is it? 

    It is a one-week ToT that can be conducted at National or Regional levels. It aims at building a pool of trainers able to customize training material to take into account specific needs of their countries and conduct national seminars to build awareness of the importance of standards and conformity assessment in international trade and provide initial guidance on how to meet the requirements of export markets. 

    The technical content  elaborated in seven modules covers, inter alia, the WTO Agreements on TBT and SPS and their benefits for the business sector; Standards, Technical Regulations and SPS Measures; Conformity Assessment; Quality Management; Accreditation and Mutual Recognition Agreements.  

    Who is it for? 

    For national and regional trainers in the area of quality.  

    For exporters, potential exporters (SMEs) and all those who want to obtain information about how to improve and maintain market access by using the benefits which can be derived from the WTO Agreements on TBT and SPS for the export-oriented business community. 

    Training material 

    The ITC Pack on “Improving and Maintaining Market Access through Standards and Conformity Assessment” is used as the main training material. It consists of PowerPoint presentation elaborating seven technical modules, with slides and speaker’s notes. It should be used in conjunction with the ITC publication on “Export Quality Management: An answer book for small and medium-sized exporters”. 

    Case studies and group exercises are used to apply the knowledge acquired.
