  • OUR HUB IN AFRICA

    Ethical Fashion Africa

Ethical Fashion Africa Ltd (EFAL), also known as « the Hub », is a not-for-profit entity, created by the ITC, which manages all the business operations and the social agenda of the Ethical Fashion Programme in East Africa.

The Hub includes a team of full-time management staff who facilitate the business interactions with international companies: accountants, quality control officers, production supervisors, packing & shipping officers etc. Most of these key people have been selected from community groups, after demonstrating their abilities.

The team is on target towards the long-term ambition of this becoming a company that can operate independently in future, once the UN agency has withdrawn. The Hub includes three large workshops: one for product development, one for tailoring and one for screen-printing.

In total, there are 60 full time artisans who work on the continuous flow of production here, while for the largest orders, we reach out to among 7,000 artisans from community groups stretching in geographical location from Laikipia in Northern Kenya to Jinja at the Source of the Nile.

    The GoDown Arts Centre

The GoDown Arts Centre, an independent African-driven initiative, was established in October 2003 in a sprawling old car warehouse on the edge of Nairobi¹s Industrial Area. Its aspiration: to free African voices in arts and culture and to re-ignite African pride and appreciation.

The GoDown plays an important role in Kenya’s cultural and artistic re-awakening. A venue for exhibitions, performance and cultural exchange, The GoDown is a nexus for innovation.

Here, creative voices can “roar” as they did at Independence nearly 50 years ago.  Through public programmes, the centre brings artists and audiences together in ways that refresh, challenge and inspire. The GoDown provides Kenya’s key multi-disciplinary space for the arts.

It plays host to organizations representing a variety of art-forms from film to fashion. Residency programs have also been offered to regional and international artists from Zimbabwe, Zanzibar, Uganda, Nigeria, UK, Cuba, Brazil, USA, Japan, Egypt, the Netherlands and Russia.
