Geneva Peace Week (GPW) is a global initiative that supports peace and human rights. Geneva-based governmental and non-governmental organizations organize a series of events to promote their work in these areas. This year, the event will be held from 6-10 November at venues throughout Geneva. The International Trade Centre's (ITC) E-Caravan for Peace will be linking internally displaced Syrian women to international markets by hosting an event and an exhibition at Geneva Peace Week 2017.
Meet Syrian designer Rania Kinge, explore “made in Syria” products and hear the stories behind the challenging journey of entrepreneurs trading from conflict-affected areas. The opening event and exhibition will show how e-commerce can open up new opportunities for these entrepreneurs to connect them with international markets, generate income, and encourage artisans’ skills in a country that is otherwise isolated from international trade.Supported by ITC and the Government of Japan, “made in Syria” products are brought to market through digital channels by the Made by Women Association, a Damascus-based association.E-Caravan for Peace: Promoting e-commerce in conflict and post-conflict situationsOrganized by ITC in cooperation with the Made by Women AssociationVenue: Palais des Nations, entrance to the Delegates Bar, 3rd floor, Building A Opening Event 7 November 2017, 10:30 – 11:15Speakers:Rania Kinge, Designer and social entrepreneur in SyriaEsmail Eid, Production Manager, Made by Women Association (TBC)Anna Miyagi, Associate Programme Advisor, ITC (TBC)James Howe, Senior Adviser, International Marketing and Branding, ITCExhibition 7-9 November 2017 Visitors can view Syrian traditional products with modern design: shirts, scarves, purses, bracelets, glassware, soap, teas, preserved foods and more!
