Putting “e” to Work: e-Trade Perspectives and Case Studies for SMEs
ITC held a series of interactive workshops during the Geneva phase of WSIS on the theme: “The Changing Marketplace: Putting ‘e’ to Work”.
In response to the issues raised during these workshops, ITC has prepared this
technical paper focusing on boosting competitiveness, contributing to the value chain and opening new opportunities for e-stakeholders in the developing world.
This guide is presented as a tool to show how SME exporters in developing countries can gain a competitive edge in the global market using ICT. In particular, it addresses the following questions on the practical applications and implications of
e-trade:
-
What are the issues facing governments, trade associations and enterprises when formulating frameworks and strategies for integration into the digital economy?
-
What can stakeholders learn from the leaders and losers in the new economy, and how can they apply these models, and avoid the pitfalls, to sectors within their economy?
-
What are the emerging opportunities for e-ready countries and businesses, and how can they be exploited?
-
What is the impact of e-trade on such issues as security, business culture and enterprise management?
