Gender and e-Trade Development

Recognizing the need and the relevance of gender mainstreaming, ITC has developed a strategy towards a wider integration of women and gender issues in the technical co-operation activities of ITC.

ICTs offer unique opportunities to overcome certain specific constraints related to their status as women, such as lack of reliable and comprehensive market information, limited mobility or other social and cultural barriers. In the field of trade, the technology gives women entrepreneurs/managers the opportunity to move their operations up the value chain. In particular, ITC assists women entrepreneurs and managers to play a more active role in international trade by including ICTs systematically in their business activities.
