In June 2011, TEP published a new technical paper on the impact of climate change on cotton production. Cotton is an important crop for the world’s rural poor. Exports of the crop from developing countries reached USD2.8 billion in 2009-10, providing incomes to millions of farmers.
The cotton value chain both contributes to climate change and is at risk from its impacts. This technical paper reviews the interface between cotton and climate change examining the threats to cotton production posed by climate change and outlines the options for both mitigation and adaptation.
The technical paper is available online in English, French and Spanish.
In 2010 ITC published a similar study on Climate Change and the Coffee Industry, available online here.
