Supply Chain Management Forum Brings Together International Experts

ITC’s Modular Learning System in Supply Chain Management (MLS-SCM) Global Network Roundtable 2011 brought together experts in supply chain management from around the world to exchange views and share best practices under the theme of “How to Build Sustainable Supply Chains”. The event, hosted by MAPICS Consultancy Sdn Bhd, was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 6 – 8 April 2011 with more than 70 members of the MLS-SCM network attending.

    April 06, 2011

The first day included high-level presentations on the broad theme of sustainability. Presentations included ‘Buying for a Better World: How to build sustainable supply chains’, by Arjan Van Weele, Chariman of the MLS-SCM Board and NEVI-Chair of Purchasing and Supply Management, Eindhoven University of Technology. Hans Joehr, Corporate Head of Agriculture for Nestlé, Switzerland, presented ‘The Sustainable Agriculture Initiative (SAI) Platform.’ ‘Measuring Sustainability in Public Procurement’ was presented by Jan Telgen, NEVI Professor of Public Procurement, University of Twente, Netherlands.

‘It’s essential for a business to achieve sustainability in supply chain management in order to remain competitive,’ said ITC's Margareta Funder ‘The MLS-SCM network complements ITC’s work in this by sharing best practices at the Global Network Roundtable. We heard this year from the Institutional Award Winner, the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as from China about successful programme implementation and from Argentina on the topic of getting started successfully. It is an ideal forum for institutions and trainers to learn from their peers on the topics that directly affect them.’

Panel discussions on the second day were on the theme of ‘Best Practices from the Network’, and highlighted areas such as: best practices, tips and techniques; new developments and tools; and training practices.

ITC’s MLS-SCM programme was commended by the training providers, trainers and participants of the forum. ‘ITC has proven that the strong network linkages among regional and global key players help to maximise the potential to build sustainable support for mentoring, guidance and facilitation,’ said Nancy Goh, Director of Mapics Consultancy.
