Public and private sector trade trainers from eight Central American and Caribbean states formed a new trade training association for the region. This is the result of an ITC trade training project funded by the Governments of Norway and Sweden.

The Association of Trade Training Institutions for Foreign Trade for Central America and the Caribbean (COMPITE-ACACCI), will provide training and advisory services to small and medium-sized firms in Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama. Members of the association include trade training institutions and commercial trade trainers. They will deliver ITC's trade training system (the Business Management System) using the ExportPyme methodology developed under an earlier project.

This is the second regional trade training network created by ITC following its national initiatives. The Association of Training Institutions for Foreign Trade in Asia and the Pacific, based in Manila (http://www.sme.com.ph/atiftap/), serves companies in the Asia Pacific region.

ITC and its partners plan future regional trade training associations in Southern Africa, East Africa, the Eastern Mediterranean and the Indian sub-continent.
