    Presentation
The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) was established on April 12, 1988 as a member organization of the World Bank Group. Its purpose is to encourage the flow of foreign direct investment to its developing member countries for economic development under conditions consistent with their developmental needs, policies and objectives, on the basis of fair and stable standards for the treatment of foreign investment. Its primary means of facilitating investment is through the provision of investment guarantees against the risks of currency transfer, expropriation, and war and civil disturbance. It also provides Arbitration Rules.
    Functions
MIGA assists member countries in the settlement of their disputes with investors. MIGA staff provides legal advise and guidance to parties from several member countries that sought creative approaches to the resolution of their investment-related disputes. MIGA's objective in these cases is to resolve disputes before they require formal arbitration. Where the parties to a contract of guarantee, concluded between an investor and the MIGA, have agreed that a dispute in relation to such contract shall be submitted to arbitration under the Rules of Arbitration for Disputes under Contracts of Guarantee of the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency, the dispute shall be settled in accordance with these Rules.
