The Court of Arbitration was established in 1950 as an independent unit at the Polish Chamber of Foreign Trade to resolve commercial disputes when at least one of the parties had its seat or place of business outside of Poland. Since 1990 the Court of Arbitration has been continuing its function at the newly established Polish Chamber of Commerce. The activities of the Court have been extended to cover commercial disputes among Polish subjects. The Court closely cooperates with other arbitration institutions, is a member and one of the founders of the International Federation of Commercial Arbitration, and thus actively promotes international commercial arbitration as a mode of dispute resolution.
The Court currently administers arbitration according to two sets of its own Rules: one applies to international and the other to domestic commercial disputes. It also administers arbitration according to UNCTRAL Rules of 1976. On average over 200 cases are resolved by the Court annually.
