Mr Suleman Fatimie, Chief Executive Offi cer, Export Promotion Agency of Afghanistan, winner of Best TPO from a LDC 2008

Afghanistan's efforts to connect businesses to new markets have earned one of the global awards from the World Conference of Trade Promotion Organizations. Created in 2006, the Export Promotion Agency of Afghanistan has made tangible contributions to expanding exports despite the country's widespread problems after decades of conflict.

'It means the world, literally, to be recognized after years of war,' said Suleman Fatimie, Chief Executive Officer of the Export Promotion Agency of Afghanistan. 'This is a big step forward for Afghanistan and a big honour.'

He noted, 'It has been very exciting to work with these businesses. The award should be dedicated to our exporters - they deserve it more than us.' Currently the agency is working with 600 companies, and aims to service 5000 companies by 2015.
